Serves 12 | 

Great for topping brie and crackers.


1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 lb light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground clove
1/4 cup chopped fresh ginger
1/4 lemon, zested
1 1/2 teaspoons yellow mustard seeds
1 yellow onion, chopped
2 1/2 cups red wine vinegar
1 3/4 teaspoons salt
1 1/4 lb fresh figs, stems removed and halved


  1. Combine the allspice, light brown sugar, cinnamon, clove, ginger, lemon zest, yellow mustard seeds, yellow onion, red wine vinegar and salt in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil on medium-high heat.
  2. Reduce temperature to low and cook until mixture has thickened to a syrupy consistency.
  3. Add figs and cook for 30 minutes, stirring frequently.
  4. Pour chutney into a container and let cool to room temperature before serving.
